Music Notes

Music is an important aspect of our worship experience at church. Shepherd of the Hills offers several opportunities to parishioners who wish to share their musical abilities.  Prayerfully consider the following musical opportunities available to you:

Adult Choir is a group of dedicated members that volunteer their time and talents to assist in the Sunday morning worship services. Senior Choir collaborates regularly with instrumentalists and groups within the church such as Shepherd’s Song Praise Team, Rejoice Quartet and Bell Choir as well as with other area churches and visiting musicians. Senior choir meets on Wednesday nights from 7pm to 8pm, September through May.

Our Bluegrass Band is a bunch of musicians who come together to enjoy the sound that bluegrass music brings to worship. They are a new group at SOTH and are open to new members. This group includes banjo, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, piano, and bass, with vocals added by the instrumentalists.

Handbell Choir currently rings four octaves of handbells and chimes once a month in worship services. Literature is varied and mid-level in difficulty utilizing a variety of ringing techniques such as “martelating” (striking the bell on the table pad) and “plucking” (reaching into the bell to flip the hammer).

Shepherd’s Song: This talented group of musicians provides the worship songs and offertories for the contemporary service. This group also performs special concerts on occasion. Membership in this group is by audition. Contact the church office with any questions.

Rejoice! is a group of fun-loving singers. The core of the group is made up of Karen Lauer-Anderson, Louise White, Olav Vik, John Miller and Leonard Smith. They are sometimes supplemented by other singers and musicians from within the membership of Shepherd of the Hills or the Fort Collins community.  This group, in addition to participating in worship once a month with an anthem that beautifully supports the liturgy, sings for numerous church socials, community events and fund raisers. They have collaborated with the Senior Choir to perform double choir literature. Questions: John Miller, j.miller102@hotmail.com
