FOOD DRIVE AND WORLD HUNGER APPEAL
October has become the month for your Social Concerns Ministry Team to
address the problem of hunger in this world. During the entire month of
October, we will be collecting nonperishable food items for the Food Bank,
so bring them to church at your convenience and place them by the Altar. We
will also have envelopes in the pew racks if you wish to contribute to World
Hunger Appeal. Here are two great ways to help out, so please do. Thank you.
Come Experience Altar Ministries - WE NEED
YOUR HELP!
The Altar Guild has changed its name to The Altar Ministries. The Altar
Ministries is a group of special people who help ensure that our worship
services bring glory to our Lord. As members we have the privilege of
preparing the sanctuary for all services. We work quietly behind the scenes
preparing for communion and decorating for our worship services. The small
tasks we perform as individuals contribute to great gifts of love to those
we serve.
We depend on each other as members in the family of Christ to share the joy
of our labors. Our goal is to assemble teams so that each team covers only
one month each year. The duties take an hour or so on Saturday, a few
minutes before each communion service on Sunday, and cleanup. The tasks
include:
Changing the paraments at the beginning of each season
Picking up the communion bread on Saturday
Filling the communion trays on Saturday
Preparing the altar for communion before each service
Cleanup, and some maintenance items such as refilling the candles and
washing the
communion linens.
First-rate training will be provided, and there is handbook in the Sacristy
for reference. If you would like to be part of this special service to our
Lord, call: Bobbie Soren at 204-4657.
SOTH Adopt a Flower Bed
By now you are admiring the flower beds located around the property of SOTH.
We’d like some help in the ongoing care of those flower beds. So, please
consider ‘adopting” a flower bed and make it your project for the
summer/fall. There is a poster/diagram in the Narthex showing all the flower
beds. Please sign up right on the diagram if you would like to adopt one
this year! Trail Clean Up
As a community service, the
Outreach committee sponsors a one-mile section of a city trail to be cleaned
each week. Volunteers are asked to sign up for the week in which they will
give time to cleaning the trail. One visit per week is required. Signs
stating that the clean-up is being done by Shepherd of the Hills appear at
the beginning and end of our assigned trail.
Homebound Programs
Each spring and fall, Evangelism
and Outreach sponsors a weekday communion service for members who are
homebound for various reasons. Invitations are sent to the homebound
followed by a phone call. Door-to-door transportation is provided. A
friendly reception follows the service which includes simple refreshments, a
decorated table, and special favors to be taken home by the invited guests.
Other church members are encouraged to attend, especially friends and
acquaintances of the homebound members. |
