Prayer Shawl Ministry
Whatever the circumstances might be, we all occasionally need a reminder of
the great, great love of God. A prayer shawl, slipped over one’s shoulders,
can provide a tangible reminder of that love. The shawls do more than
provide physical warmth; they provide spiritual hope and comfort as well. At
moments where it is hard to express our sorrow or concern for another; a
shawl becomes a meaningful gift of love that will literally wrap one in the
prayers of another.
The blessing is not only for the receiver of the shawl, but for the maker as
well. During the time we spend knitting or crocheting, we become more aware
of the presence of God and His grace on our lives. One cannot spend that
amount of time praying for a person without sensing closeness. It is a gift
of grace for both receiver and giver. If your heart is calling you towards
compassion and prayer, you are invited to join us—whether or not you can
knit or crochet! We have lots of willing teachers, extra knitting needles,
crochet hooks, and yarn. We have a short devotion, knit and crochet, eat
goodies, and share stories, laughter and encouragement.
This group prays and makes shawls for members of the church, their families
and friends. Please call us with the names of those you think might
appreciate a prayer shawl. You can call Pat Madson at 282-9205 or Deaconess
Brenda at the church.
Prayer Shawl Ministry group meets every Second and Fourth Thursday from 1:00
p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the church.
Your Mission Fund Can Be An
Important Part Of Your Planned Giving!
VISION FOR THE FUND.
- To build endowed funds to support
scholarships and a variety of projects to benefit our congregation and
community.
- To have the Fund named as a recipient of
planned gifts from the congregation.
- To be a method for members to join in
projects, large and small, that are not part the general budget of the
church.
WHY THE MISSION FUND?
- The congregation established the Fund
several years ago as an outreach arm and separate from the regularly
budgeted activities of the congregation.
- Fund objectives are long-term, designed
to accommodate both immediate gifts and earnings, as well as those paid
upon settlement of ones estate.
- Nearly all of your gift is used for
charitable work because expenses are minimal; administrative costs are
very low; and Board members are volunteers elected from the congregation.
HOW CAN YOU TAKE PART?
- The Mission Fund is for all members,
young and old, small gifts and large.
- Remember anniversaries, birthdays, and
other special dates with a gift to the Fund.
- Join the Shepherds Circle by “adopting”
the Fund as one of the heirs to your estate, by naming the Fund as a
beneficiary to life insurance, or retirement plan benefits.
- Establish a charitable trust benefiting
the Fund, providing you with lifetime income and a charitable tax
deduction.
- Leverage your gift by giving appreciated
stock or other assets instead of cash.
Talk to one of the Board members for more
information about the Fund, and to obtain resource references.
